The rowel is significantly thicker and more rounded, it rolls on contact with the horse and thus avoids rubbing and chafing on the fur and skin of sensitive horses. The stainless steel spurs with an elegant and fine Balkenhol fastening are made for a perfect fit on the boot. Great spur. The roller ball is effective without being at all harsh on their sides. Sprenger brand is solid. Love the rubber guard too. Stays put well. I have spur rests on my boots, but I imagine they would stay put even without. Expensive, but sure to last. My daily go to spur.
