Description
The Barton Wincher(Pair). Max Drum 90-100mm (3.54"-3.94"). Max Rope 12-16mm (0.47"-0.63"). Weight 387g (13.65oz). A specially designed rubber moulding which fits over the top of standard winches, converting them to self-tailing. This simple operation works when the line is sheeted under load, which means the coils climb up the winch drum and then become gripped by the underside of the Winchers rubber body. Cleating is achieved by locking the sheet into the Winchers ribbed central groove. Barton Winchers are easy to fit and available in four sizes to suit a wide range of popular winches.

These are used by many people - I see them on many boats. I find that the line bunches up on the winch and jams instead of exiting, so it is sort of "delayed tailing," meaning a couple of turns, jerk the line to exit the winch, couple of turns, jerk the line.I initially had it at 3 stars and said that it did seem to function by "delayed tailing," but I updated and reduced to one star. These ultimately proved to be useless for me. They prevent a standard winch from working like a standard winch, and are not substitutes for a self-tailing winch. The line jams under the wincher unless it is continually pulled out with the free hand. I cut them off the winches after about three months, and I am happier without them.
