So the guy that said it did not fit his 1997 F-150 is correct to a point. I have a 2001 witch is the same as the 97 just a little different on the body. If you want this to fit you will need to drop the transmission mount cross bar and unbolt the transmission mount from the transmission. When you do this the exhaust hanger will come off. You will need to modify the exhaust hanger. With that said you will want to remove as much of the mount frame up to where the transmission has made a mark on the it. This exhaust hanger is over kill for the design of it so it will not effect anything. Mine I removed as I have duel exhaust from the headers back. But I will do this to my mount thus summer just so I have the part installed just in case I ever need to change my exhaust system. One other note is this pan is aluminum not steel. Yes the drain plug comes With a very little magnet but think the big round one from your old pan was just coated very heavy with very fine film do you think that little one in the plug can stop all that gunk like the big round one did. NO. Make sure to use your old round magnet. I just put mine around one of the studs that was sticking up in the new pan that holds the filter up. That was the only thing I did not like is they could have molded a pice of steel in the pan to attach the big magnet to. I would also like to note that just about every auto transmission has a test port. That is a good place to put your Guage. I have 152K miles and this was the first time I pulled the test port plug. Saved me over 100$ for a pan that has one in it.Cooling effect :Before I installed the new deep pan I ordered a temp Guage. I was not able to do any hauling just around town and highway driving . My transmission heated very slow and never went above 137° F. When the transmission was placed under harsh drive conditions (gas peddle to the floor a lot ) the transmission heated a lot faster and the only way I found to cool it was when going down hill off the gas. Max temp doing harsh driving was145°F and outside temp got to a max of 68° F. Ya it's winter so had to use what we have. After I got the pan installed (note no temp Guage port) I filled it and let it sit over night as I had to do more work than I thought I would. The next morning I went for a drive about 10 miles to the store no movement from the Guage. I decided to drive the truck for the week to work 50 miles one way. Now that I have the aluminum pan with extra fluid it takes a lot longer for the transmission to worm up. It still gets to the same temp as before but takes longer to get their. In my book for the price of a new transmission or this pan, is a great buy. I'm also adding the remote transmission cooler with fan this summer as I haul like a F-350. I will try to get my pics loaded. If you got some time and basic hand tools you can install this just fine. I did give this a 5 star as the pan works great and is not to bad to install. I hope this was a help to you.
