In my previous review. I gave this item 5-Stars and high ratings for quality of craftsmanship, but all that has changed.I bought two of these Totem Poles and was initially very impressed with the artistic detail and what appeared to be great craftsmanship. To make sure they survived the elements, I applied 5 coats of marine varnish by brush.Nevertheless, after only a few months, one of the Totem Poles fell to the ground, breaking off the ears and wings. The Totem Pole was attached to its base with very large nails, which were completely rusted and the wood around the nails was completely rotted. The Totem Pole must have been made from green, wet wood, or left out in the weather, unprotected from the elements, rotting all of the wood internally. The outside wood, where I applied the marine varnish, was completely undamaged and unweathered.Well, the 2nd Totem Pole crashed to the ground yesterday, causing about the same amount if damage as the 1st Totem Pole, except that the interior wood was even more rotted. So, I paid over $400 for two Totem Poles, one of which only lasted a few months, and the other that lasted just over a year.Don't waste your money on these. They look great, but won't survive the weather.
