I just put ours together yesterday and am basically happy with the purchase. It’s smaller than I thought especially in height but the dimensions are shown in the description and for me the size should work out even better. It would only be good for SMALL dogs or cats. I bought it with my cat in mind so it should be perfect. We had a basic kitty condo for her and next to it a large soft sided carrier that we put her food in to try and keep the dogs from eating it. When we had big dogs it worked for the carrier to be the cat’s “restaurant”. Now we have two little dogs and if we go out they eat all her food so we have to remember to put her bowl up on the condo. I figured with this I could just keep her food up on top and neither dog could get to it. The littlest one can’t climb or jump at all due to abuse before we got her and the other (Chihuahua/Corgi mix) is too thick and short legged to be able to use the stairs. The lattice railing would keep him from jumping up. For the cat to get used to the new surroundings we put her food in the dog house portion. She adjusted to it very quickly. The opening is smaller than on the carrier, no side windows for light and a step up from the floor so we’re going to see if the dogs won’t go in here. The corgi mix might be too thick to go in it and the little one doesn’t like to go up a step into that section. I think the steps are pretty useless because of their width mostly. If I hadn’t gotten it at a sale price I wouldn’t have been as happy. The food bowl to the left of the stairs belongs to the dogs.Pros: The design is cute and mostly functional for SMALL dogs and cats. The deck is good for brushing your pet on. (I’m tempted to takeoff the steps as a cat really doesn’t need them.Cons: No finish at all just bare stained wood. Stain not really uniform. They say you can take the top off to clean inside but the steps are screwed into the deck and the dog house portion so you’d have to undo the screw at the bottom of the steps first. My cat isn't using the deck yet but I think part of the problem is the stairs. I was going to take them off today and decided to try screwing them to the side of the house which would give her much more room on each side and the deck would be right at the top. I like the way it looks better and hope it works this way.Other reviews have covered many aspects of the product, I'll cover things I noticed after putting it together earlier today.Nice cedar smell. Wood is a very low grade with plenty of marks, filled in bits and so forth. Its hardly fine wood but its priced accordingly. I bought this to replace the styrofoam/plastic bin sleeping spot for a feral cat that hangs around my house. I'm not sure its nice enough to be an 'inside' piece of furniture but its certainly nicer looking than the plastic bin and its sitting in my covered entry way.First off, the wood is extremely thin so don't count on much insulation from that. The slats of wood are also not evenly pushed together before being stapled to the edges. There are 20 or so gaps that you could stick a butter knife into. So on its own it'll allow quite a bit of air infiltration and its not something you could fix with a tube of silicone caulking. The bottom part also fits irregularly inside and leaves a gap all of the way around.I also found several predrilled screw holes not predrilled, and one part of the 'fence' hadn't been drilled out for a wood peg to fit in. I've seen other reviews that showed not all four corners of the bottom cut out to fit. Bottom line is this is a low quality control item and chances are you're going to have to do a little minor drilling or cutting. Its easy to put together, just look over the instructions for a few minutes. Even having to do a little drilling it only took me about 15 minutes to put together. To fix the excessive gaps, I tore apart the box it came in, lined the whole thing with cardboard, then a layer of the bubble wrap the parts were wrapped in, then I cut a square of the bubble wrap, cut it up the middle and taped it to the inside of the door to hold out the cold. I also put a 2" foam board in the bottom. Good enough for northern california winters. This is big enough for a very large cat or small dog, or two small cats. I only put in a couple of screws to hold the top slab on, so I can remove it to clean and rearrange the inside. The ladder also requires one screw on the bottom right to hold that steady. All in all a decent looking little outdoor 'shelter' for mild winters, if you have a covered area to put it in. I don't think this would take much rain or direct sun all day long. Very well made and easy to put together.Only 4 stars because stairs were too narrow and small. Will be taking them off and buying some other kind of stepsI just received this product and i was wonderfully surprised at how easy and beautiful it was when put together. The only problem with it is-the stairs are much too steep. My poor little Yorkie has trouble finding his way down. I would have much preferred if the steps were replaced with a ramp or less steep steps.Instructions to assemble not clear. Not sturdy. The “wood” was not what I thought it would be...could be thicker and durable. Not happy with this product. The box was broken when I received the product.
