Bought this to be a 3rd seat for a child in a Coleman canoe. Installed this today - the directions were.....something to be desired and what I'd expect to see coming from wish or aliexpress - not from a US based company. It said for Coleman canoes to move the center thwart towards the stern 11". Not possible as the thwart would be too wide for the hull so I installed just on the other side of it towards the bow.Pictures were essentially useless so ended up just figuring it out on my own. I'm sure the folks that created this are around boats and canoes all day long so are familiar with the terminology but for us novices, that's not the case. It says to install the yolk and then 'pad retainer.' What the heck is a pad retainer? The pictures for this part are essentially the the same thing - grainy but close up, low res and black and white. I screwed the self tapping screws into the holes but now I can't rotate the bar and the pad will not go past the screw/ spacer so can't use as a yolk. Doesn't bother me I guess as I won't use this as a yolk but only as a seat. Frustrating to say the very least. For $140, send some better instructions in color from a high res printer, explain what a pad retainer is and other terminology, provide better pictures of the cad drawing and then close up of the part in question. Or just provide a link to a youtube video to show proper installation with various canoes.4 stars for the seat, 0 stars for the instructions.I bought this because I needed a third seat for my daughter. She reported that it was comfortable (we were out for 8 days). I hadn't expected how much I would like it for portaging. It's a lot more comfortable than a wood yoke or pads. The "give" of the hanging strap/pads means the canoe bounces a bit with the terrain which eases the pressure on shoulders. It is also possible to adjust forward or backward a few inches for steep uphill/downhill carries so you don't have to worry about banging the bow or stern. The extra inches help with visibility too. I am 5'11 and did not have a problem with it raising the canoe too high (e.g. hitting branches). It also held up well although it did occur to me that if the connectors broke, we'd be hard pressed to fix it in the field. Lastly, my only real negative on this product is that the directions for installation are totally useless--I found a youtube video though so it didn't matter.I used this for my entire 2021 canoe season and I would say this is the most comfortable portaging pad I have ever used and you even get a third seat as a bonus.I was hesitant for some time about buying this yoke. I have a heavy Grumman canoe and I wasn't keen on drilling holes in the gunwale, equally I was worried that the yoke might not handle the weight of the canoe. I knew the seat was comfortable as I sat on one for hours on a fishing trip in a friends canoe. After seeing one on another Grumman online I decided I needed to give it a try. I couldn't be more pleased. It's so easy to carry the canoe and having it a few inches higher gives me a better line of sight on the portage trails. Most importantly however you can adjust the center of gravity by sliding the canoe slightly forward or back which is really handy when you tie in paddles, poles and anything else when portaging.I haven't used it for a long portage but it does support the short walks with it comfortably. As a seat it works but more for a child than adult. It sits rather low in the down position and too high in the up to be practical for a seat. Installation was easy with clear instructions. Cost effective option.I have a 17 foot alumni craft aluminum canoe.i bought this yoke when i bought the canoe some 22 years ago. This is the best product i have ever bought for my canoe. My sons and i use this canoe a lot every year. This yoke works great for portaging and when flipped over as a center seat. What i really like besides it being durable and light weight, when you are carrying the canoe it sets up high on your shoulders so you easily see where you are going.i would recommend this product for anyone who has a cone !Put this on a Radisson canoe 12 foot. Needed to get off the bottom of the canoe as my back can’t take a flat bottom. Can fish now most of the day and hump it in also. Did put one of them on son canoe 15 years ago and he loves it. No issue with it for 15 years. The best on the market for comfort and quality. Can install in 10 minutes.
